VANESSA OWEN is originally from Amity, Pennsylvania and earned her B.F.A. in Dance from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Vanessa was a recipient of a 2013-2014 Fellowship in Choreography awarded by the Virginia Commission for the Arts, and her choreography has been presented at Wright State University, the 30th Annual Choreographer’s Showcase in College Park, MD, the 15th Annual YES! Dance Invitational, Malayaworks’ Intersections, Shenandoah University, and VelocityDC Dance Festival in collaboration with Gavin Stewart.
She has danced professionally with Wylliams/Henry Contemporary Dance Company, the Washington Reflections, the Dayton Philharmonic's production of Leonard Bernstein's Mass, and the Kennedy Center's concert production of Children of Eden. In Vanessa's four seasons with Company E of Washington DC, she has had the opportunity to perform, teach, and choreograph in places such as Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Russia, Azerbaijan, Cuba, England, Israel, Palestine, and Uruguay. Vanessa recently relocated to the beautiful mountains of Asheville, North Carolina where she works as a freelance artist.
